oh dear

After much encouragement, but no luck receiving an invite, I asked someone from the wide world of the book to add me.

Five minutes later I was in and absolutely lost in pinning land.  Why is it so addicting?  Why did I stay up until 11:00 last night messing around?  Wait, I have an answer for that one, it's because B was alternating between sleep and screaming his head off, stupid vaccines - or maybe he's teething??

It makes me want things - a giant library, a log cabin, crafting skills, cooking patience, a green thumb ...  Perhaps Pinterest is meant for people like me, a place to put dreams that will never come to be because the skills are simply lacking.  There are people who gather ideas from Pinterest and make their lives beautiful, but I haven't mastered cutting a straight line (seriously, the wrapping paper I bought this year has a grid on the reverse side to make cutting easy and I'm still having issues) so probably shouldn't tackle too much crafty DIY.

Are you on it?  Do you like it?  Come find me.  Also, how do you say it?  My neighbor friends say it with ease, but I can't form the sounds correctly.  Also, I have 40-50 new visitors to my blog every day, but I only know a few of my readers.  If you're new, or quiet, introduce yourself, please.  I've been craving company lately, but I don't really want to leave the house.

  1. Bizarrely I just received my pinterest invite today and have spent the last hour pinning! It is very addictive I agree. And I haven't even started on books yet!
I have no idea why but I always stay up until at least eleven every night messing about on the internet despite the fact that I am always tired and should really go to sleep when the children do.
I'm not new (or particularly quiet!) but I am here. Sadly on the wrong continent for IRL company but cheering you and Bennett on and remembering your dear Charlotte x

  2. I would be right over with a girly Christmas movie, some chocolate and my slippers if I could!

  3. Pinterest is very addicting. I could spend hours on it which is why I don't get on it very much lately. I now have a 6 week old rainbow baby who takes up a lot of my time these days. I'm also going back to work in a couple weeks and then starting my last semester of classes towards my bachelor degree the week after I start work so you see I will be even busier... Not really looking forward to not having time to do fun stuff with friends but it will be worth it when I'm finished with school. I hope...

As far as how to pronounce Pinterest I say PIN-ter-rest.

Also if B is teething you might want to look into a baltic amber teething necklace if you don't have one already. I have heard great things about its healing properties with teething.

sn: I think this was you that had this done.... I got my placenta encapsulated and have been taking them. I think it has really helped. I can tell a difference in my attitude when I don't take them.

  4. My husband likes to crack jokes and say everything is "interesting" so we just say it just like interesting with a P. I know, I get so hooked on there & end up just wanting stuff... I seriously have to limit my time or I can get all crazy!

  5. Pinterest! Best thing ever! I will never, ever make the vast majority of the cute crafty things I see there, but there's some really great food ideas and I am a lot more likely to make those. Plus I love the interior decor ideas, and the travel photos, and oh . . . everything.

Also. You have a lot of new visitors and a lot of blog traffic, which is awesome and as it should be. Have I told you lately I love your writing? I do.

  6. I have been on Pinterest for about a month. No idea why it takes so long for an invitation. I love it too, although I'll probably never make the majority of the things that I pin.

  7. Hi. I am a newbie and introducing myself now. I actually found your blog in a roundabout, but sad way - when all those AWFUL people were making comments about HB. Your writing truly speaks to me and I check back often. Love to "meet" you on Pinterest as I am TOTALLY addicted to the dreaming, I mean pinning, too.

  8. I've been following you for awhile :) Our little ones are just a few days apart. I recently pinned this on pinterest and it makes me laugh because it was exactly how it was for me. http://pinterest.com/pin/111112315776109332/ Hopefully that works, it should also make it so you can follow me, but leave me a note on this cartoon i linked so I know its you and can follow you please!! :D

  9. I am kind of a newbie. I have been following you for a long time now, but rarely comment. I am a mother of an18 year old daughter, and she and my 60 something year old mother were just looking at Pinterest this weekend. I have resisted the urge for right now. I have to make it through Christmas first. At this moment I have no wrapped presents or a single Christmas decoration up in my house. I dont need anything else to make me feel guilty that I cant do. :)

  10. Hi
I've been mostly silently following for probably 11 months or maybe a little less. My name is Sadie. My daughter, Eva, died on 10/8/2010 at 7weeeks 6 days old. I think I've only commented once but I've prayed for you many times. I read your blog like everyday. I totally heart Pinterest. I just started about 2 weeks ago and I'm obsessed. I'm still unsure exactly how to use it all but I just click 'like' on pretty much everything.
    Always wishing you well,
    Sadie

  11. I'm so sorry for the loss of your sweet Eva.

I laughed out loud at the second half of your comment, because I don't really know how to use it either!

    Thank you for reading.

  14. I don't know why it's treated as a super exclusive club, it's silly when one can easily be invited by someone who is already a member - pinner?

  15. I am so glad we joined at the same time! It makes me feel like I'm not completely out of the loop.

I do have a lot of visitors - really more than I ever expected - and I am grateful that so many read my writing. Thanks for loving what I write!

  16. General consensus says that's the way to say it. Now wondering if I say interesting wrong ...

  17. We are friends on facebook, yes? Congratulations on your rainbow baby! So good to "meet" you, get to know you a bit better.

I will definitely look into the amber teething necklaces, I have heard good things about them.

Placenta encapsulation is the best! I'm glad it is working for you.

    Thank you for reading.

  18. This is exactly why I am not allowing myself to even look at Pinterest. I have no time for a new addiction, I have way too much to get done before this baby arrives. (That and my my out of control ravelry addiction.)

    ReplyDelete
  19. That sounds wonderful. When are you moving back to Oregon?

    ReplyDelete
  20. I haven't mastered going to sleep when Bennett does, but eventually I will, maybe. That's my time to get things done though.

I so want to come to your continent. I have lots of people there I would like to meet.

  21. Stay far away then, it's compulsive.

And that baby will be here soon, can't wait!

  22. Angela, I got on it about a month ago, was frustrated trying to figure out what it was all about, realized I don't have time to brush my teeth, much less update FB and try and blog every now and then and so I gave up. Although, I get a hearty, hearty laugh every time it says someone is following me ( <3 you!) because I think, "Poor sucker...if they only knew I am CLUELESS as to how this all works!!!!!!"

    Love to you, friend!

    With love,
    Mary-Ann

  24. Hi Angela...I've been reading for a while now and I think I've left a few comments here and there. I am Rebecca and I live in NJ...I have 3 little boys, they are 6, 4, and my littlest will be 2 in 2 wks! Just wanted to say HELLO. I haven't looked into Pinterest yet because I already lose too much time I don't really have on FB ;)

  25. I am on there :) I pronounce in "PIN trist" (the spelling is the best way I can explain how I say it LOL) my name on there is beanlady ;) I LOVE pinterest! I have so many boards! I love it for recipes and DIY stuff more than anything :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Welcome to the Pinterest craze! Yep, its horribly addicting - I won't lie. But you cannot beat the resource it is for crafts, recipes and my favorite: kiddo stuff. I am finding so many ideas for kiddo crafts/activities, bedroom decor, etc. I love it! My first advice would be to organize who you follow. I think Pinterest automatically throws in a few strangers for you to follow when you first sign up. I ditched all those strangers and now just follow my FB and blogger friends - thats enough information in itself for me to absorb.

Have you installed the 'Pin It' button on your toolbar? I've hooked a few friends onto Pinterest but later found out they thought it was all solely within Pinterest - they had no clue they could actually 'pin' ideas from sites outside of Pinterest too.

    Happy pinning!

  27. I so want to join, but I have so little time and another time suck is not what I need! Plus it's impossible to get into, apparently.

I'm pretty sure it's just the word interest, but with a P at the beginning. Maybe?

  28. Hello Angela,

I have been following your blog for quite some time now, never commented though. You are a wonderful writer and I love reading your posts, you sound like you are doing a wonderful job as a mama to your little one. I have a 16-month old son so it is nice to read your posts and remember what he was like at the stages Bennett is going though.

I just received my invite from Pinterest this morning and after being on for 20 minutes, had to force myself to log off or I would get nothing done today! It is very addicting, however, I have no idea how to say "Pinterest" either so I am very glad you asked your readers :)

  29. I read you anonymously everyday. Love your blog! I say it like the word interest with a P in front. ;)

  33. That is great advice, I wondered who those random people I was following were. And I have installed the "pin it" button, though it is very dangerous.

    Thank you for reading!

  34. I see your pinterest rants on facebook and it makes me wonder if I am doing it correctly. If not I apologize!

  37. Before having Bennett I brushed my teeth every morning. All too often now I realize it's 2:00 in the afternoon and I have yet to do so.

Love to you too, thanks for reading!

  38. Yes we are friends on the Facebook. :P Thanks. btw I ordered an amber necklace today. Still have a little bit before she will need it but it was a good deal.

  39. I am a shy reader but love Pintrest! I am addicted to it, it is bad. I love adding stuff for my baby girl (who is growing too fast). I just want to say you are an amazingly strong woman and your little boy is so cute!
