it's berry season! (aka: how to exhaust your toddler)

This morning we went berry picking before the weather warmed up too much. J found this great little place (Haven Hill Farm) out South that we will definitely go back to. The owners are really laid back and nice. They don't care if your toddler runs around eating as many berries as he can stuff in his mouth while you pick. And they run a self serve farm so their hours are really flexible (6am-9pm!)

We were there early enough (thanks for waking up at 6, B!) to have quick, easy access to raspberries and blueberries. The blueberry bushes were so full and ripe they were crazy easy to pick. I picked raspberries for a while then sat myself down beneath a blueberry bush and picked for a while.

It was nice not having to worry about B too much. If he wandered down to the parking area (all the berries were on a hill, which is a great use of land, but not so good for this pregnant lady) we had to turn him around, but he spent most of his time wandering and eating close by.

Have I told you how much I love Oregon? Well, not all of Oregon, this area specifically. We have great access to fresh, local foods and I love how city and rural living co-exist here. On the way home we stopped at a new natural grocery store in town to see if they had pectin (we have some jam making to do!) and I complained to J about having to decide which natural store to shop at. I probably should just count my blessings that I live in a place where one can pick berries early in the morning then stop on the way home to pick up some pectin and ghee (seriously, ghee. what is becoming of us?).

B fell asleep on the way home, around noon, and is still asleep on the couch (I think we're coming up on the three hour mark!) Apparently a belly full of berries and sunshine equals one exhausted toddler.

sometimes all it takes is a cupcake

I went to my doctor's today, which is in the town we used to live in. I cried all over her because she hugged me and asked how I was doing during this difficult time of year. Then she scolded me because I haven't been keeping up with things as well as I should. Then she hugged me again. She really is the best doctor.

After my appointment I went to the bookstore where I used to work (B and my mama in tow) and bought holiday books and Christmas presents. Every year I sort through the new Christmas books and pick one or three to add to our collection. One of my favorite Christmas traditions is pulling out the Christmas books on December 1st.

Then it was off to lunch and home to pack for our weekend in Seattle. As we were driving out of town I said, "Oh, we're stopping here!" and pulled into the parking lot of Ruby Cakes. I've been wanting to stop here for a long time, but haven't managed to fit it in when in town.

You guys, it is the cutest shop, and all of the baked goods are gluten free, nut free and vegan. I finally found baked goods I can eat while nursing!! I bought Bennett and I a mini cupcake each and we had ourselves quite the treat. Then he ran off some of the sugar while I over Instagrammed pictures of the shop. It is seriously the cutest thing I have seen in a very long time and it lifted my mood like you wouldn't believe.

I am now going to over share blurry cell phone pictures with you.

If you ever visit me I promise we will visit this warehouse of goodness and beauty in the granary district in downtown McMinnville - which really is the quaintest town I've ever seen.

pumpkin patch baby

We had so much fun at Bauman Farms today.

A family friend has celebrated her birthday the past two years with a trip to the pumpkin patch followed by soup and cider at her house. It's a blast.

It was pouring rain, but most everything is covered so we were able to enjoy our time and stay dry. I love how many activities this farm has for toddlers. And I really appreciated the baby care tent when B needed a diaper change and some mama milk. Nothing better than a comfy couch, a nice rug and a changing station when baby and mama need a break.

Where is B?

I have no idea what we're looking at

saturday evening

After a busy morning (yes, I hoisted B a bit higher after seeing this picture)

we decided a night out was in order

We walked to our local pub

And I had my first beer in a very long time.  I inhaled the hops and golden wheat smell for a long minute before taking my first sip

We walked over the water and headed home

With a frozen yogurt detour

And then it was home, baby bed time, new master plan in place, maybe he'll sleep ...
